Longdian-Ruxiang Transmission Project Delivers Over 247.1 Billion kWh: ±800kV Qilian Converter Station Completed Ninth Annual Maintenance

State Grid Gansu Electric Power Company recently disclosed that as of September 14, the Longdian-Ruxiang project has cumulatively transmitted 247.138 billion kWh of electricity, with 23.612 billion kWh delivered in the current year.

Rated at ±800 kilovolts with a transmission capacity of 8 million kilowatts, the Longdian-Ruxiang project spans five provinces and municipalities — Gansu, Shaanxi, Chongqing, Hubei, and Hunan — serving as a critical channel in the national “Western Electricity to Eastern China” strategic layout. As the first ultra-high voltage direct current project in China to achieve large-scale bundled transmission of wind power, solar energy, and thermal power, the project provides solid support for cross-provincial renewable energy optimization and regional power supply security.

The ±800kV Qilian Converter Station is the core hub of the Longdian-Ruxiang transmission corridor. The operational status of core equipment such as the valve cooling system, converter transformers, and circuit breakers at the station directly affects the safety and stability of the transmission channel. During this year’s peak summer load period, operators at the ±800kV Qilian Converter Station adopted drone and valve hall rail robot collaborative operations for specialized equipment inspections. Maintenance staff monitored the valve cooling system across three shifts (morning, afternoon, and evening), conducting two rounds of comprehensive infrared testing daily, and employed a dual guarantee mechanism combining “manual spray cooling and intelligent dynamic monitoring” to ensure stable equipment operation conditions.

In May this year, the ±800kV Qilian Converter Station successfully completed its ninth annual maintenance. The maintenance divided operations into 59 work areas, covering 1,198 AC/DC inspection and testing items, 6 targeted maintenance tasks, and 16 differential maintenance tasks, with simultaneous software upgrade optimizations and 22 equipment defect elimination tasks. The core breakthrough of this annual inspection was the autonomous maintenance of all equipment in a single valve group, with meticulous inspection of core equipment such as converter transformers, converter valves, and circuit breakers, strictly controlling the torque of every bolt and every operational waveform, achieving comprehensive clearance of hidden dangers across all station equipment and full enhancement of equipment performance.

Meanwhile, State Grid Gansu Ultra-High Voltage Company has continuously optimized its maintenance model, building an integrated “smart maintenance + offline precision inspection” management system. Relying on 17 digital subsystems to build an intelligent digital operations platform, paired with manual precision inspections, the system achieves full-time perception and full-process control of equipment status.
