In the computing town of Linping District, Hangzhou, rows of servers operate around the clock, supporting artificial intelligence large model training. Linping District is seeing rapid growth in new business formats such as computing and smart manufacturing, industries whose production processes are continuous and precision-driven, making them highly sensitive to reliable power supply.
State Grid Hangzhou Power Supply Company’s Linping branch is deploying new distribution network construction to support these industries. Line upgrades, weak point remediation, and other measures are being implemented in tandem, addressing shortcomings at the distribution network’s end points and building a complete power supply framework from the main grid down to local distribution lines.
Liu Xiaofeng, head of China Unicom’s Zhejiang Linping Computing Center, said large model training never stops. A voltage fluctuation can corrupt massive datasets or even damage server hardware. Grid upgrades help reduce the risk of data loss from voltage fluctuations.
At Hangzhou Huile Intelligent Science and Technology Co., precision CNC equipment is processing high-precision components. Company manager Shao Lu said their equipment is highly sensitive to voltage changes, and stable power supply combined with regular on-site inspections gives them confidence to expand production capacity.
Behind stable power supply is a “ground-air integrated, cloud-edge collaborative” smart inspection mode. Drones fly over industrial parks, capturing minor anomalies on power lines and towers. On the ground, AR (augmented reality) devices perform close-range fine inspection to precisely locate fault points. When problems arise, field staff can instantly connect with cloud-based experts for remote diagnosis and handling.
Huang Qizhen, director of the operations and inspection department at State Grid Linping District Power Supply Company, said the smart inspection mode has effectively resolved the issues of blind spots, low efficiency, and slow troubleshooting in traditional inspections, significantly improving equipment anomaly detection accuracy and increasing daily inspection efficiency by 60 percent.
Grid fault handling capability has also been enhanced. In 2023, Linping completed distribution automation retrofit across the district. Linping is also the first area in Hangzhou to deploy fully automatic feeder automation (FA) on all lines. The fully automatic FA system can automatically identify fault lines, isolate fault sections, and quickly restore power to non-fault sections.
Linping is also expanding the application of live-line working to avoid power interruptions affecting enterprise production. Recently, Zhejiang Sicta New Material Technology Co. needed to upgrade its factory’s distribution lines. “Production schedules cannot wait. The production line cannot be interrupted,” said company manager Tang Liang. Thanks to live-line working methods, grid upgrades and normal production proceeded without interruption.
Quality grid infrastructure also benefits rural industrial revitalization. Xinyu Village in Linping District leverages its lotus pond ecology to develop lotus deep processing and rural cultural tourism industries. Various processing machinery, cold chain storage, and tourism facilities all require power supply continuity. State Grid Linping District Power Supply Company re-planned and relocated village lines, replaced aging cables, expanded distribution equipment capacity, and comprehensively optimized the village grid architecture.
“We will continue to advance new distribution network construction, ensure stable power for various new business formats, and contribute to economic and social development,” said Huang Qizhen.
