On September 9, at Jianshuiwan, Anlan Town, Banan District, Chongqing, crew members of State Grid Chongqing Shinan Power Supply Company completed the live-line installation of an integrated primary-secondary pole-mounted switch on a 10 kV line, with customers experiencing no interruption of supply throughout the process.
At 8 a.m. that day, workers first fitted crossarms, clamps and other fittings on pole No. 2 of the Hualan section of the 10 kV Anlong line, installed the switch body, completed secondary commissioning and reserved the jumper leads. Live-line workers then rose to height in the insulated bucket of an aerial lift device, applied insulating covers to the adjacent energized conductors, and connected the jumper leads phase by phase. After tests confirmed everything was normal, the switch was closed and the line was re-energized.

The integrated primary-secondary pole-mounted switch is known as a “smart sentry” of the distribution network. Once installed, it can quickly locate the faulted section when a line fault occurs and supports remote-controlled isolation. A 10 kV line often stretches for several kilometers and feeds a large number of transformers and customers; in the past, a fault at any point could affect the whole line and required repair crews to patrol it manually. These devices give the line “self-perception, autonomous isolation and fast self-healing” capability, making them a typical instrument of distribution network intelligentization.
Since the beginning of 2026, State Grid Chongqing Shinan Power Supply Company has commissioned 216 integrated primary-secondary pole-mounted switches in its rural grid service area, further improving the reliability and intelligence level of the rural power network. As distribution network intelligentization advances across the country, intelligent distribution equipment such as integrated primary-secondary switches is entering county and rural markets at an accelerating pace.
